can celebrate the holidays.

The District Office is closed through Friday, Dec. 31, returning Monday, Jan. 3. School sites will also be closed for students and teachers during that time. Students will return to class Jan. 3.

For some school district departments in the district, technology for example, the break is an opportunity to take care of specific tasks that can’t be accomplished with a full staff working.

Students will also have a break for President’s week in February, as well as a week’s spring break at the end of March. A furlough for City Hall employees will begin Thursday, Dec. 23. Employees will use vacation, comp time or unpaid leave, according to Mary Kaye Fisher, the city’s human resources director. City Hall will reopen for business on Monday, Jan. 3.

Council meetings for Dec. 22 and 29 have been canceled; the council will meet again on Jan. 19 though it has an all-day goal-setting retreat set for Saturday, Jan. 15. All other commission and committee meetings are on hold until after the holidays.

No Morgan Hill city services will be provided during the furlough although key executive staff members will be available by cell phone in case of an emergency.

The Community and Cultural Center will be open for reserved events during the furlough but no classes will be held.

For water emergencies during the furlough, contact the Police Department at 779-2101. Limited building inspection services will be available, however; inspections can be arranged by calling 776-9108.

No services will be provided in Finance, Planning, Business Assistance and Housing Services and Human Resources during the furlough. Both fire department stations will be staffed as usual except for fire administration.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department main office will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The main office telephone number for Santa Clara County Fire is 378-4010. If you have an emergency, call 911.

The Morgan Hill Police Department will be open during the furlough. If you have an emergency, call 911. Otherwise, please call the Police Department during normal business hours. The MHPD business office will be closed to the public on Dec. 24-25 d on Jan. 1.
