Dear Editor,
My husband and I have lived in Morgan Hill for a little over a year, after moving here from the Midwest. We thoroughly enjoy life in Morgan Hill. We are writing to let everyone in town know about an outstanding new restaurant.
The Happy Fisherman, located on the corner of Monterey and Wright, is a charming restaurant that serves exceptional Cuban and seafood specialties. The owners, a lovely Cuban couple, have brought to our community a wonderful dining experience. Their menu is quite varied, some of our favorites include, the halibut, the plantains and the shrimp kabobs. The delicious food and generous portions are available for dining in their quaint, clean restaurant or for carry out and currently nothing on the menu is priced over $10.
We were lucky to stumble across this gem hidden at the end of a strip mall. The owners have expressed to us that they are having a hard time getting permission from the City Council to place a sign outside their restaurant in order for more people to realize that they are open and ready to serve a great meal. They have requested a sandwich board type sign that is often seen in the downtown area but were told that they could not do that where they are located.
Why is it OK for the downtown stores and restaurants to have such signs and not a restaurant located a few blocks north? It is an easy location to drive by without realizing that there is even a restaurant in the small shopping center. We’ve noticed that the city puts a huge emphasis on supporting downtown Morgan Hill but there is so much more to our city then just downtown. While we agree that support should be given to downtown businesses it should not be at the expense of other Morgan Hill businesses. We as a community need to support the whole community. Part of the appeal of Morgan Hill, to us, is its small town feel and friendly people.
We would like to encourage the City Council to show their support by allowing signage that could help them promote their business. We would also like to encourage others to give this new restaurant a try and help keep this friendly, charming restaurant open for all of us to enjoy. The Happy Fisherman is located at 17865 Monterey Road on the corner of Wright and Monterey.
