The slicing and dicing is likely to continue tonight as the Morgan Hill City Council hears further recommendations about budget cuts.

The city was faced with an ongoing annual $2.2 million budget shortfall caused by declining sales and property tax revenues and development-related fees, but at its Jan. 14 meeting, the council cut about $2 million, which included $500,000 in reduced wages through ongoing labor contract re-negotiations and three true layoffs.

The council will review revised options at its meeting tonight. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 17555 Peak Ave.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of the county’s proposed bag tax. The council may provide comments to the County Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission, as requested of all cities in Santa Clara County.
