CHRISTOPHER HIGH School student Sarah Retana has been chosen as one of this year’s winners of the Sixth Annual Space Foundation International Student Art Contest.
Retana’s submission was one of only 25 winning pieces of art from more than 3,800 entries representing 40 countries around the globe. She was awarded first place in the age 17-18 category.
Winning entries will be displayed in the Lockheed Martin Exhibit Center Pavilion at the Space Foundation’s 32nd Space Symposium at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado, held April 11 to 14. Artwork will also be displayed at the Space Foundation World Headquarters and Discovery Center, also located in Colorado Springs, throughout the rest of the year. Each contest winner will receive an award ribbon, certificate, art kit and personal autograph from U.S. Astronaut Dr. Leroy Chiao.
The Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education will honor Retana at the Jan. 14 board meeting.
