In most cases the average golfer seldom uses the proper club off
the tee.
In most cases the average golfer seldom uses the proper club off the tee. We all get caught up in watching Tiger Woods drive it 300 plus yards. So in order score like Tiger we need to hit it far. Wrong!
More than 85 percent of the students we instruct should not even consider a driver. Why? Because they can’t put the ball into play off the tee.
They let their ego get in the way, so they spend most of the time punching out of the trees.
So why is the driver so difficult to hit? Simple. Many drivers today have shafts that are too long and not enough loft.
The longer the shaft combined with less loft makes it more difficult to control.
Many times my students will tell me they hit the three wood just as far if not father. This is true. Because of more solid contact hits and loft, ball will will carry farther.
So, if you are struggling off the tee with the driver, don’t let the ego get in the way. Instead choose a club you can put the ball in the fairway with.
When you feel confident enough to try the driver, see a certified PGA club fitter to help you determine the right driver for you.
Jack Nicklaus was once asked what was so of the key factors in winning so many majors. His response was to put the ball in play off the tee. Many times it wasn’t the driver!
