Sobrato baseball skills camp

Sobrato High’s Baseball Skills and Pitching Camp will be conducted in two sessions next month. Hosted by Bulldogs head coach Ulises “Shorty” Gutierrez, the camps will be held Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12 from 9am-noon and 12:30pm-2pm each day. Cost is $90/$115.

Caparusso earns June Ace honors

The Gavilan Niners held their June Ace Day on June 30 at the Gavilan Golf Course. Ace was Birgit Caparusso, Gilroy, net 33, which was also good for first place in the first flight. Second in the first flight was Donna Ashmore, Gilroy, net 33. First in the second flight was Opal Imprescia, Gilroy, net 36, second was Bobbi Bentley, Morgan Hill, net 38. Low putts went to Donna Ashmore, Gilroy with 14.

The Gavilan Niners also hosted the June 10 short course tourney last month. Opal Imprescia, Gilroy, and Marlene Sherwin, Morgan Hill shared the overall low net with 26, Phyllis Dollar, Morgan Hill,came in second in her flight with a net 31 and Ann Maloney, Gilroy, came in third in her flight with a net 33.

Eclectic winners were: Marlene Sherwin, Morgan Hill, net 24, Opal Imprescia, Gilroy, net 26, Carol Navarez, Morgan Hill, net 27, and Peggy Woolf, Morgan Hill, net 29.

Susan Komen Breast Cancer Fundraiser Closest-to-the-Pin winners were: first place, Donna Ashmore, Gilroy, second place, Janet Roach, Watsonville, third place, Joan Webenbauer, Morgan Hill,and fourth place, Pat Coedich, Gilroy.

Gavilan baseball camp

Gavilan College will hold the second session of its inaugural co-ed baseball camp in mid-July.

The camp, which will be led by Gavilan baseball head coach Neal Andrade, Gavilan assistant coaches and players, is for children ages 7-13 who are interested in learning the basic skills to improve their baseball talent.

One five-day session remains, beginning on Monday, July 18 and ending Friday, July 22.

Each day, the camp will take place from 9am to 12pm at the Gavilan College baseball field.

The fee for each session is $75.

Campers should bring a glove, bat, hat, baseball shoes, sweatshirt and a snack.

OVYSL fall soccer accepting signups

Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League is now taking sign-ups for the 2005-06 fall recreational season.

Play begins Sept. 10 and ends Nov. 20. Boys and girls ages 4-16 are eligible (birth dates 8/1/1989 to 7/31/2001). Fees range from $65 for U6, $95 for U8 and $120 for U10-U16.

Include a certified copy of the prospective player’s birth certificate, along with a 1-inch by 1 1/2-inch color photo. Note: Player may not be wearing a hat or sunglasses in the photo.

Applications must be postmarked on or before July 15 or a $25 late fee will be assessed.

Teams are filled on a space-available-only basis after July 15.

YMCA Camps signups

Mt. Madonna YMCA in Morgan Hill is now accepting registration for camps which take place at the Morgan Hill YMCA, 17666 Crest Ave.

Half-day sports camps are for 3-5 year olds and take place through Aug. 19. The cost is $133/week.

Full day sports camps include a soccer camp from July 18-22 and the cost is $223/week; basketball camp from Aug. 1-5 and is $223/week; Y-World of Sports from July 5-8 and from Aug. 15-19 and is $223/week; gymnastics camp from July 11-15 and is $290/week; and golf camp from July 25-29 and Aug. 8-12 and is $350/week.

These camps are only for those entering grades 1-3 or 4-6.

San Jose State offers basketball camps

The coaching staff of San Jose States University’s Men’s Basketball Program will be holding its second four-day summer camp next month.

The camp runs Aug. 8-11 (Monday-Thursday). There is an early drop-off that starts at 7:45am and a late pick-up until 5:30pm at no additional cost.

Please note that camp runs from 9am-4pm.

The cost of the camp is $155 for early bird registration and $170 for late registration.

Early bird registration deadline is July 29.

Camp staff will include the SJSU men’s basketball coaching staff, players, as well as other area coaches.

The camp emphasis will be on fun as well as basketball fundamentals, skill enhancement, and team building.

MH to host elite high school pitcher’s camp

Taylor Made Baseball is offering an elite High School Pitcher’s Camp in Morgan Hill this month.

The camp, which will cover everything from pitching mechanics to mental training, will run from July 25-29 from 9am-4pm.

Rich Taylor and a local staff of coaches will lead the camp. Players must be in high school or entering high school in the fall.

Cost of the camp is $325 for 30 hours of instruction and will include admission to 24-Hour Fitness, the J-Bands and Alan Jaeger’s book. Deposit is $150.

MH Makos Swim Club signups

The Morgan Hill Swim Club has begun its 44th straight year of representing the Morgan Hill community in USA Swimming. Tryouts for the team are open to anyone ages 6-18 are held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center every Monday through Friday at 5pm.

Monthly dues begin at no more than $75, with sibling and year-round discount programs offered.
