The 2010 results reveal students improved in the areas of English language arts and mathematics by 4 percentage points. It’s a start, and with the leadership of Dr. Wes Smith – who has been on the job for less than a year – more improvement is expected.
Jeers to who ever is responsible for not finishing the Dunne Avenue construction near Nordstrom Elementary School before classes began Tuesday. The lack of planning and coordination is inexcusable.
Cheers to the otherwise smooth opening of the 2010-11 school year. By all accounts – except for perhaps some traffic snarls – the more than 9,000 students descended on the district’s 13 campuses with, if not glee, at least resignation.
“Only 179 more days to go, Grandpa.” RJ Parker, 7, a second-grader at Nordstrom Elementary School told it to his grandpa Dave Fulcher when he was picked up after the first day. Here’s to hoping grandpa got a big laugh out of it.
Cheers to all the candidates who filed papers and took up the challenge of running for political office. Three are running for mayor, eight for city council and nine for school board. The wealth of candidates can only increase the depth of discourse. Congratulations to all, and may the best candidates prevail come November.
Cheers to the sister city committee and host families for bringing six students from our sister city of Mizuho-Machi, Japan to Morgan Hill. The cultural exchange, while not vital to the operation of the city, helps build bridges between to cultures, hopefully bringing with it a renewed understanding of others. To the host families, thanks for opening your home.
