Latin music is burgeoning internationally with unprecedented popularity, and we’ve found that Latin music items are some of the best circulating ones in the Morgan Hill Library.
We have a wide variety of CDs and cassettes by leading artists and some lesser known ones as well. You’ll find items as diverse as: the girl group Las Ketchup, the reggae-rock sounds of Argentina’s Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and the classic Mexican pop of Los Bukis.
We have videos of performances by artists like Gloria Estefan, Tito Puente, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony and Celia Cruz. There are also musical documentaries like Wim Wenders’ wonderful film about the Grammy-winning Cuban group Buena Vista Social Club and the Freddy Fender narrated documentary on Tex-Mex border music, Songs of the Homeland.
The library offers musical guidebooks such as The Rough Guide to World Music Vol. 2, which focuses on Latin music and will help you explore the myriad styles within the genre. We also have books that focus on particular types of music such as Elijah Wald’s fascinating book on a Mexican subgenre, Narcocorrido: A Journey into the Music of Drugs, Guns and Guerillas.
And don’t forget to check out the biographical books and videos on artists like Selena.
Are you ready to try dancing to some hot Latin rhythms? We can lead you to a variety of how-to video titles such as: Red Hot Salsa, Tango and Waltz, or Latin Dancing for Beginners which will have mamboing around the room in no time. Whether you prefer the tango, cumbias or the cha cha cha, the library definitely has something for you.
