Two men and one juvenile male were arrested Friday following a police chase which ended in a minor, non-injury collision.

The chase began as officers were investigating a reported disturbance at the Super Mercado shopping center at Main and Hale Avenues. A family had called 911 and reported two people following them and challenging them to fight. Detective Gary Cupps reported seeing possible suspects walking south on Hale Avenue approaching Warren Avenue. Sgt. Mark Brazeal attempted to contact three subjects with similar descriptions who had just entered a vehicle on Hale Avenue near Nob Hill Terrace.

As Brazeal approached, the driver, Temesghen Yohannes, 21, of Oakland, sped away, and officers pursed him through the city. During the pursuit, Yohannes attempted to ram another officer and swerved only at the last minute.

Traveling west on Main Avenue at approximately 50 mph, Yohannes ran through stop signs at Hale, Peak, and DeWitt Avenues, eventually stopping in a small alley between DeWitt and Peak.

Because of the sudden stop, the police cruiser crashed into the suspect car; no one was injured and the damage was minor. Yohannes and two passengers, Michael Catano, 18, of Morgan Hill, and a 14-year-old Morgan Hill male, were quickly apprehended by officers.

Yohannes was booked at Santa Clara County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, reckless evading of a peace officer, resisting arrest, and a warrant for violation of probation. Catano was cited and released for resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and an outstanding warrant. The juvenile was released to his parents with a citation. Officers determined the vehicle was not related to the incident at the Super Mercado, and Yohannes had fled due to his warrant.
