board is expected to vote tonight to renew the charter for five
more years.
After a session of questions by the Morgan Hill Unified school district board of education about whether or not Charter School of Morgan Hill has indeed lived up to the rules of its charter, the board is expected to vote tonight to renew the charter for five more years.
The school board meeting begins at 6 p.m. tonight at school district headquarters, 15600 Concord Circle. The first charter approved in January 2001 and was last renewed in 2006.
The board will base its judgment on three sub-areas: academic performance criteria, racial/ethnic balance and efforts of the school to increase diversity, and fiscal solvency/financial reporting. Most questions at the Sept. 14 board meeting focused on CSMH’s fairness during enrollment and ensuring the school is reflective of the demographics at MHUSD.
Also on the public agenda is a presentation of the Program Improvement process that directly affects P.A. Walsh Elementary in year four of PI and Jackson Elementary in year five of PI. Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Socorro Shiels will detail the planning and implementation of Jackson’s alternative governance due to its PI 5 status, and the possibility for a similar plan at Walsh.
School board candidate forum
If you can’t make it to Tuesday’s school board meeting to shake hands with the candidates, a political information night for state and local education races is scheduled for Thursday night at El Toro Brewery.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. local school board candidates are invited to meet and speak with the public. They will present their platforms in five-minute speeches beginning about 6:30 p.m.
