Dalle Ore wins high bar regional title
Champions Academy qualified 18 gymnasts for the State Championships and sent 11 boys to Regionals in 2010, marking another big year for the Morgan Hill club.
Among the top performers was Level 9 star Giuseppe Dalle Ore, who captured a regional championship in high bar and a state title in floor exercise; part of a third-place all-around finish.
Dalle Ore was joined at regionals by teammates Bryan Miner, Maasai Jones, Aaron Baer, Dante Gallardo, KyVon Hughes, Garrett Perez, Giovanni Fedalizo, Kyle Miner, Evan Williams and Gregory Grattan, who competed with the best gymnasts from California, Hawaii, Arizona and Nevada.
Each made a strong showing at state. In Level 7, Bryan Miner placed second in pommel and fifth all around; Jones scored the second highest in parallel bars and was seventh all around, and Baer took silver in floor. Perez, Gallardo and Hughes also performed well. Williams placed second in bars and fifth all around at Level 5.
Several other Champions gymnasts scored well at state, including a trio of 6-year-olds. Kyle Hawkins, George McNarney and Miko Knosala placed ninth, 10th and 28th all around, respectively, at Level 4, which drew more than 400 gymnasts. Anthony Ponomarenko was 16th all around at Level 5 and was joined in the competition by Dakota Nix.
The Level 7 girls team from Champions won multiple all-around medals this year, plus a team title in the San Mateo Invitational.
The group was anchored by Haley Romero, Karissa Fisher and Maddie Miller, who placed fourth, fifth and 14th all around at state. Fisher and Romero scored closely in previous competitions as well, taking first and second at San Mateo and second and first in the Spirit of the Flame Challenge in San Jose, one of the state’s largest events.
