English of Walnut Creek won the floor title with one of her best routines of the year and also triumphed in the vault at the Level 7 girls final in Stockton last week.

Morgan Hill’s Garrett Perez and Maverick Lundy were among four Champions Academy gymnasts to capture NorCal state titles in the last month.

Perez won gold in pommel horse at the Level 9 boys final in Berkeley on March 24 with a score of 11.95. His 69.45 all-around mark was good for second place in the 16-and-older division. In addition, Perez was named to the NorCal All-Star Team, which will compete in the April 12-15 Region 1 Championships in Reno, Nev.

Lundy, who joined the team last summer, highlighted his first year of competitive gymnastics by taking first in rings with a score of 14.8 at the Level 4 boys meet, held March 3-4 in San Luis Obispo.

Last week in Stockton, Natalia English of Walnut Creek won the Level 7 floor (9.65) title with one of her best routines of the year. She also triumphed in the vault (9.55). English, who finished her first season at Level 6 in December, placed third in the Child B category.

Gilroy’s Haley Romero, also of Champions, scored 9.525 to win the Level 8 vault title on March 25 in Sacramento. After taking a year off from competition, Romero returned to the sport, trained diligently and competed a beautiful optional vault, which was 10th in the Junior G age group. Romero will compete in the Region 1 Championships in Las Vegas at the end of April.

The girls are coached by Jinjing Zhang, Angie Williams and Sam Quicke. Perez is coached by Zhang and Tony McDonald, and Lundy by former Morgan Hill gymnast Zach Fedalizo.
