57-54 overtime win over Gunn in the first round of the Division II
tournament
MORGAN HILL — The Sobrato boys basketball team has found its first playoff opponent.
The No. 7-seeded Bulldogs (18-6) will host No. 15 Woodside (15-12) in the second round of the Central Coast Section Division II tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Wildcats, a Peninsula Athletic League-Ocean Division member, upset No. 10 Gunn 57-54 in overtime Tuesday.
Led by junior guard Jason Chandler (16.1 points per game) and senior center Jordan Rubin (10.7 points, six rebounds per game) Woodside has won five of its last six games, including two other road victories at San Mateo and South San Francisco.
Chandler had 18 points Tuesday, Rubin finished with 12, and two other players scored in double figures to help Woodside overcome a 31-20 halftime deficit. The visiting Wildcats trailed by 10 after three quarters but blew up for 20 points in the fourth to pull even, 48-48, going into the extra period.
Thursday’s winner will play No. 2 Archbishop Mitty (17-9) in the quarterfinals Saturday at Foothill College.
