Monday is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 presidential election, and those who prefer to wait until the last minute can do so at the Community and Cultural Center in Morgan Hill.
The CCC, at 17000 Monterey Road, will be open from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22 for interested voters to register. Staff from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters will be on hand to assist residents and process registration paperwork.
County staff will be registering new voters as well as changing addresses for existing voters who have moved since the last time they voted.
It is important that voters who have moved keep their addresses updated so they will receive the correct ballot for their neighborhood, as some items on the ballot such as local races and measures differ from one geographical area to another, according to registrar of voters spokeswoman Elma Rosas.
“Even if it’s just down the block, they really should change their address,” Rosas said.
New voters and existing voters wishing to change their address are not required to show identification or proof of residence, but must fill out paperwork listing such information when they register.
Aside from the presidential choice on the ballot Nov. 6 are the election for U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state senator and assemblymembers, Gavilan Community College District board of trustees, Morgan Hill and Gilroy unified school trustees, and Morgan Hill and Gilroy mayor and city council races.
Also on the ballot are a number of statewide constitutional referendums, and local measures. The local measures include Santa Clara County Measure A, which would add a one-eighth-cent sales tax for general fund expenses; Santa Clara Valley Water District Measure B, which would extend an existing parcel tax to fund retro-fitting of Anderson Dam and flood control; and Morgan Hill Unified School District Measure G, which would issue a $198 million bond to pay for technology, construction and infrastructure improvements for district facilities.
