In the race for three seats on the Morgan Hill Unified School District board, several more prospects have qualified since Thursday for the Nov. 6 election.
Brenda Cayme, a clinical associate director and parent who previously ran for a seat in 2010 but lost; Marty Cheek, an author, columnist for the Morgan Hill Times and MHAT volunteer; and Amy Porter Jensen, an agriculture planner and parent; will appear on the ballot.
Current board trustee Bob Benevento, who was appointed in 2010 after a vacancy left by Julia Hover-Smoot, Rick Badillo a construction business owner and father, and Stephen Klem, a grandfather and sales representative, are also running.
Three seats are opening this cycle because trustees Kathy Sullivan and Peter Mandel – both eight-year veterans of the school board – have each said they will not seek third terms; and Benevento’s appointed position expires.
The top three vote-getters in November will take the three, four-year term seats.
The filing deadline was extended from Friday to Wednesday because at least one incumbent chose not to seek re-election.
Here’s a list of when candidates qualified. Prospective candidates have until Wednesday to file and qualify with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters.
Rick Badillo: Qualified July 25; Bob Benevento: Qualified Aug. 9; Stephen Klem: Qualified Aug. 9; Marty Cheek: Qualified Aug. 9; Amy Porter Jensen: Qualified Aug. 10; Brenda Cayme: Qualified Aug. 10.
