The voices of many of history’s most famous composers can be heard beginning July 17, when The Carmel Bach Festival launches its 67th season under the direction of world-renowned conductor Bruno Weil.

On opening night, audience members will enjoy the sounds of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata 43, Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in B Major and Cantata 63. This performance will run consecutive Saturdays during the length of the three-week festival (July 17, 24 and 31).

Additional performances at Sunset Theater will include Sunday matinees (July 18, 25 and Aug. 1) of the St. Matthew Passion, with English supertitles; Tuesday Classical Nights (July 20, 27 and Aug. 3) sharing the sounds of J.C. Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven; Thursday Bach Musical Offerings Nights (July 22, 29 and Aug. 5) featuring Bach, his family, those who admired him and his friends; and Friday Mozart Nights (July 23, 30 and Aug. 6) showcase several Mozart favorites. The Sunset Theater will also host a one-night only performance on Aug. 7 highlighting the Best Of The Fest.

At the Carmel Mission Basilica, festival attendees will bask in the sounds of Monday Night Soloist Spotlights (July 16, 26 and Aug. 2) including J.S. Bach, Michael Haydn, Handel, Vivaldi and more. The Mission will also be home to the famous Founder’s Memorial Concerts (July 21, 28 and Aug. 4) featuring an a cappella vocal program under the direction of chorale conductor William Jon Gray.

The Carmel Bach Festival also features an Intermezzo Recital Series (July 19 – Aug. 7); the Twilight Series (July 21, 28 and Aug. 4); the Candlelight Series, (July 18, 25 and Aug. 1 and 9); as well as the Family Concerts (July 24, 31 and Aug. 7). The series plays at All Saint’s Church, Carmel Mission Basilica, and Church in the Forest , Pebble Beach, as well Sunset Theater.

For the first time ever, this year the Carmel Bach Festival will introduce a Foyer Concert Series at the Sunset Theater Foyer on July 20, 27 and Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. The series will feature lute or theorbo with vocal and/or instrumental groups. On July 20 the performance will feature scenes from 18th c. Pastoral Music including Handel, Purcell, Zamboni, Telemann and Biber.

The July 27th concert will focus on French and German music for flute, theorbo (bass lute) and violin by Boismortier, D’Hervelois, Telemann and Handel. The final concert will be on Aug. 3, and will feature extremes of 17th-century Italian music from artists including Monteverdi, Strozzi, Mealli, Piccinini and de Murcia.
