With a new collegiate semester just around the corner, students planning to pursue careers as farmers, ranchers or in other agricultural occupations may now apply for 2013 California Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation scholarships.

On the heels of a recent Fox News report citing agriculture as the highest field for job growth, last year marked a milestone for the CFB Scholarship Foundation, which awarded $202,250 in scholarships and surpassed $2 million in scholarships distributed since the foundation’s inception in 1955.

Scholarships awarded by the foundation are based on a student’s achievements as well as their agricultural career goals.

More than 70 students benefited from foundation scholarships in 2012.

The 2013 scholarship, application can be found at www.cfbf.com/programs/scholar, and applications must be received by March 1. Any student who is a member of the California Collegiate Farm Bureau is eligible to apply; dues for the collegiate Farm Bureau are $25 annually. Students do not need to be a California resident to qualify for membership.

To join Farm Bureau as a collegiate member, go to www.joinfb.com and click on “Collegiate.” Members have access to 46 weekly issues of Ag Alert online, scholarships, internship contacts, events and the Young Farmers & Ranchers program. Collegiate membership is available to students between 16 and 24 years old who are enrolled in a post-high school education program.
