Someone is apparently trying to make money by using the Live Oak High athletic department.
Live Oak Principal Rich Knapp said a business owner in Gilroy had reported someone asked her to support the school athletic program by paying $75 to purchase an ad in a calendar. Knapp said there are no sports fundraisers under way at this time.
A legitimate fundraising effort, he said, would not be conducted by telephone, as this fraud was, and will in the future probably use Live Oak letterhead to prove authenticity. He said the best way to determine if it is actually going to benefit the school is to call 201-6100.
