E-waste recycling event helps MHYSA

– A free e-waste recycling event to benefit the Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday July 23 at the Outdoor Sports Complex, 16500 Condit Road. All types of office equipment and electronic items will be accepted. Drive up and drop off. There will be help unloading. Items not accepted include florescent bulbs, furniture, large appliances, refrigerators, paints and solvents, microwave ovens, paper shredders, power tools and vacuum cleaners. All proceeds allow more children to participate in sports.

A batty trip at Calero County Park

– Take a ride to the Calero Bat Inn from 6 to 9:30 p.m. July 23, 5 to 7 a.m. Aug. 13 and 5:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Aug. 27 at Calero County Park. Bring a small beach chair or blanket, closed-toe shoes, bug spray, layered clothing and flashlight. Meet at the Calero Park office. Reservations are required.

– The next Coffee will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at Hot Java, corner of Second Street and Monterey Road in downtown Morgan Hill. As always, bring questions, concerns, suggestions or criticisms.

Mike Johnson to be honored Aug. 6

– Mike Johnson will receive the Leadership Excellence Award during a 5 p.m. Aug. 6 tribute dinner, benefit and party at Jason Stephens Winery, 11775 Watsonville Road. In a beautiful outdoor setting among vineyards and under an oak canopy, the event will include a silent auction and a delicious gourmet dinner. 

At his request, the recognition program will be abbreviated for music and dancing to Morgan Hill’s favorite band, the Usual Suspects. In keeping with his character, dress for the event is simple casual for summer fun in the vineyard. The event will reflect the fun and camaraderie so typical of Johnson, thereby truly honoring and celebrating him.

Gavilan aviation classes set to begin

– Students seeking careers in aviation can apply for fall admission to the Gavilan College program that is accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration. Fall aviation classes start Aug. 11. Open registration is now in effect. Fees are $36 per unit. Other Gavilan classes begin Aug. 31.
