Sobrato’s Kenzeddie Williams brings the ball over the timeline against Oak Grove on Jan. 6

The winter season was a strong one for local teams with two league champions and five teams that made the playoffs.
There were three MVPs, 10 players of the year honors and 10 First Team members.

Sobrato girls basketball

As predicted, Kianna Maldia and Helena Batey were turning heads for who was going to be the sophomore of the year.
Both girls were lethal on the court and were instrumental for Sobrato to win its third league title in four years and the voters made the choice easy.
Point guard Maldia was the MVP and shooting master Batey was co-Sophomore of the Year with Leland’s Sheridan Payne.
Sobrato’s senior Karla Martinez goes out on a high note with a nod to the first team all league list for her effort down low in the post.
Rounding things out was two players named to the second team all league list with Samantha Brenny and Allison Nodohara both earning nods.

Sobrato boys basketball

The Sobrato boys basketball team captured a league title in the inaugural year of the South Division and the Bulldogs were rewarded.
Point guard Kenzeddie Williams earned co-MVP honors along with Gunderson’s Mrad Abrha.
On the first team list, Jason Rhoads and Luke Walton both got nods as forwards thanks to their offensive fire power.
Rounding out the team honors was Kolby Nguyen on the second team list.

Live Oak girls basketball

The Live Oak girls basketball team had to scrape and claw its way to playoff eligibility, but the effort on the court was recognized with end of the  year honors.
Grace Smith led the charge in postseason honors being named to co-Junior of the Year along with Danielle Gezzi from Gunderson. Gezzi was a tour de force on the court which makes it that much more special that Smith made the list.
Smith had a knack for taking over games and was always the one people knew they had to slow down if they were going to slow Live Oak.
Perhaps getting a little down graded because of the record, Live Oak only had two named to the Second Team list, with Cameron O’Connell earning a nod as a junior. But freshman Adrianne Gomez cracked people’s attention with her breakout performance as a guard earning a second team nod.

The Acorns boys basketball team had a tough season, but they still hot rewarded for individual effort by Joe Goble. The senior concludes his high school career as a member of the Second Team member as a guard.

Sobrato’s girls soccer

The Sobrato girls soccer team had one senior but it had strong leadership up and down the lineup and was rewarded for it with postseason nods.
The CCS Division II runners up were recognized for the pieces it had on the team.
Perhaps the most important position on the field, the goalkeeper of the year went to Sarah Somavia, who shared it with Westmont’s Katie Thompson.
Somavia helped keep Sobrato in the game against Prospect in the championship game.
She was joined by Emily Pfefferlen who earned Junior of the Year honors.
On the Frist Team list was a pair of stalwarts on the Bulldogs team with Kayla Morales and Megan Rottenborn.
Rounding things out, Jessica Gonzales and Camila Santana were named to the Second Team all Mt. Hamilton Division team.

Live Oak girls soccer

Despite taking second in the Santa Teresa Division, the Live Oak girls soccer team took home the lion’s share of awards starting with some of the top honors.
Emmy Goble earned MVP honors for her effort at the midfield as an all around threat.
Scoring phenom Holly Hopwood culminates her run with the Acorns soccer team by being named the Senior of the Year.
Following them were Morgan Salzwedel, Olivia Williams and Brisa Lugo receiving nods to the First Team list.
Rounding things out was Sydney Hange and Alex Cayme being named to the to the Second Team list.

Sobrato boys soccer

The fourth-place Sobrato boys soccer team took in several top honors led by keeper Evan Martinez who was named the Goalie of the Year.
He was followed by Max Brown and Sam Ludley were recognized for their efforts with spots on the First Team All West Valley team.
Rounding out the list was Zach Sin who earned Second Team honors.

Live Oak boys soccer

Coming off a 7-10-2 overall performance and a 4-9-1 effort in West Valley Division play, the Acorns did get a nod in the postseason honors.
Jarod Puthoff was the lone member on the list, getting recognized as the Senior of the Year.
