This past week has been brimming with activity for the students of Live Oak.
On Saturday night, the “In Da Club” dance, which has been dubbed the “best dance this year” attracted more than 300 students to the Live Oak gym. The dance was open to all high school students with an ID card, not just those from Live Oak. The theme, which had an informal club theme, was enjoyed immensely by students and was just a fun night of dancing and partying with friends.
The stark reality of Monday morning was somewhat less traumatic than usual as it was Tacky Day at Live Oak, one of the spirit days for Homecoming week. Winter Homecoming Spirit Week began last week and carried on until the homecoming game. Tuesday had the “Cowboys and Indians” out and about and all the doubles appeared on Wednesday for “Twin Day.”
Wednesday’s homecoming game was packed with Live Oak students, staff and parents to cheer on the basketball players. Senior Brian Crane with a group of fellow Live Oak students were decked out in Hawaiian shirts and sombreros, with Crane leading “the wave” back and forth across the stands.
Live Oak’s Homecoming Royalty was presented at half time by ASB Social Chair, Nicole Morrison. The sophomore royal couple was Nick Campos and Raquel Estrada, followed by the junior couple Brandon Powell and Gabby De La Torre. This year’s Homecoming King and Queen was George Quezada and Catalina Rawers.
The rest of the week proved to be just as busy due to Valentines Day. Live Oak ASB was kept in a whirlwind with all of its sales. Students could purchase crush cans, wax lips or roses to send to their valentine. Students purchased the goodies earlier in the week and they were delivered on Friday. If a student received one and wanted to find out who sent it they had to pay $1 at the ASB office.
With all the action going on this past week students and staff are all looking forward to the upcoming week off. Winter Break started at the end of day Friday and students don’t return until the Feb. 23. Many students are planning to head up to the slopes with friends and family, while others are just ready to relax at home.
Good Luck to the Live Oak soccer teams who are both heading into CCS playoffs!
