The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce and Mainstreet Media Group, publisher of the Morgan Hill Times, have agreed to print the chamber’s monthly newsletter, which will be inserted on the second to the last Friday of every month.

The newspaper tabloid format professionalizes the monthly publication giving chamber members an easier read and more up-to-date business information, according to Dan Ehrler, president of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce. Business Morgan Hill will include a monthly calendar of business events, details about chamber breakfasts, women in business luncheons and mixers, new member profiles, and members-on-the-move announcements. Those interested in advertising in the newsletter should contact Morgan Hill Times advertising representative Alan Ladd, 779-4106, ext. 208 or the chamber at 779-9444.

Morgan Hill Hair Salon Donates to Locks of Love

Morgan Hill – Cherisse White, owner of Cherisse’s Hair Salon and Day Spa in Morgan Hill, has donated ponytails from 10 area residents to an organization in Lake Worth, Fla., which creates hair prosthetics for children suffering from medical hair loss.

One of the donors, Brooke Buckingham, a first-grader at Oakwood School in Gilroy, said, “I did this for the little girls to have beautiful hair like mine.”

The two main causes of hair loss in children are alopecia areata, an auto-immune disorder that causes the hair follicles to shut down, and radiation or chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Alopecia, which has no known cause or cure, affects 4.7 million people in the United States.

Locks of Love, a non-profit whose mission is to restore the self-esteem and confidence of children who have hair loss due to any medical condition, provides hairpieces at little to no cost to financially disadvantaged children.

While the hair for a hairpiece must be at least 10 inches long, Locks of Love accepts hair of varying lengths, textures, and colors – from 6-10 inches, from straight to naturally curly, and from blond to gray – all of which can be sold to offset the manufacturing costs of the prostheses.

White has sent dozens of ponytails to the non-profit for the past four years.
