Burnett Elementary School sixth grade teacher Maria Candelaria-Bagula and scores of students perfomed a Mardi Gras Mambo show April 8 in front of about 100 parents and friends. The show celebrated Mardi Gras, Irish culture and the arrival of spring. It comes with bittersweet emotions with the recent news that the school will close next year.

“We decided to go out with a bang!” Candelaria-Bagula said of her third production.

The entire show was performed by the students and run by the students.

“If they did not perform, they worked on costumes, make-up, lighting/tech and sound,” she said. “We also built the set designs out of some recycled products.”
