The proposed placement of California’s High-Speed Rail system tracks in Santa Clara County will be discussed at two public meetings to be conducted by the High-Speed Rail Authority this month.
On March 25 in San Jose and March 26 in Gilroy, two Environmental Impact Report scoping meetings will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. The San Jose meeting will be at the Roosevelt Community Center, and the Gilroy meeting will be at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The meetings are a “kickoff for the EIR process,” in which state officials will present information about the project’s layout and gather input from the public and local jurisdictions before the environmental assessment begins, Morgan Hill Community Development Director Kathy Molloy-Previsich said.
In November, voters approved a $10 billion referendum to partially fund the train system that would carry passengers from Sacramento and San Francisco to San Diego at speeds of up to 110 miles per hour.
Current plans show the train’s route through south Santa Clara County going over Pacheco Pass, with a station in Gilroy. The tracks through Morgan Hill would be elevated, according to Morgan Hill Planning Manager Jim Rowe.
The city’s planning commission will discuss the upcoming scoping meetings at a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the City Hall council chambers. On March 18, the city council will discuss the rail system, and Rowe will give a presentation on the High-Speed Rail Authority’s current plans.
