Sobrato Bulldogs

Sobrato dropped its second game of the season, falling 42-6 to Sacred Heart Prep battling not just a quality team, but also the heat.
The game was eventually halted in the third quarter as temperatures in Atherton went past 105 degrees.
Coach Tony Holmes said at some point it was more about the safety of the players over seeing the game to the end.
“The heat was definitely a factor in terms of trying to get out there and play,” Holmes said. “The kids wanted to stay, but we had three kids go down. It could have gotten nasty. It was well above 105. I’m pretty sure if we got to keep playing that we would have carted kids off the field.”
Sacred Heart Prep scored 14 in each of the three quarters played, amassing 340 yards of total offense.
But a week off of seeing total futility on offense, the Bulldogs saw some success, gaining 145 yards of offense, including a touchdown pass from John Bell to Marcos Ramirez.
Holmes said he knows there’s still things to clean up, but he was encouraged seeing how the boys played against a good team.
“It was a far better outcome than it was than against Christopher,” Holmes said. “The guys played a lot better. I think we were definitely better prepared going into this game than going into first one. It’s just about keeping focused on mission.”
Sobrato will now get ready for Monterey on Saturday, which will be the first test for Sobrato against a team more on its level.
The Toreadores are 0-2 overall and have lost six in a row dating back to last season.
They have been held to three touchdowns in two games while giving up 78 points in that stretch.
Holmes said it is hard to judge just how good Monterey is going to be based on their record, so he said the boys need to go into the game focused.
“We told them after our meeting Monday that we can’t base their record based on ability to play game,” Holmes said. “We want to see how good we are this week and give us a chance to see just how good going to be.”
Monterey lost 35-7 to Mountain View and fell 43-15 to Seaside. Holmes said it is hard to really gauge what kind of team Monterey is on those two games just because they faced quality opponents.
“The score is hard to factor in how good or bad team is when it is playing really good teams,” Holmes said. “We’re as good as we are. We’re playing a really good football team and that’s for us to get better on weekly basis.”
Holmes said he wants to give Monterey a steady dose of the run early in the game to try to take advantage of line match ups.
He said Monterey likes to blitz the gaps.
Holmes said Bell was also pretty good with his arm when he had time to throw, so he wants to see if there are matchups they can take advantage of in the secondary.
Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Sobrato.
