Sobrato Bulldogs

Sobrato took a significant step closer toward clinching a league title with an impressive offensive performance against James Lick Friday night, winning 76-28.
The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in West Valley Division play. Sobrato can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win next week against Mt. Pleasant. And thanks to holding the tiebreaker over Overfelt, who is one-game back, a win will effectively clinch the league title and the automatic playoff berth.
The Bulldogs can avoid tiebreakers if they can win their next two home games—Friday against Mt. Pleasant and Nov. 10 in a makeup game against Evergreen Valley—or with one win and an Overfelt loss.
Jared Jones had his fourth 200-plus yard rushing game, going for 234 yards and three touchdowns. He also had two receiving touchdowns.
Jones has now smashed his way passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark, going for 1,221 on the season.
Quarterback John Bell threw for 216 yards and five touchdowns, completing 12 of 16 passes.
Two of the touchdowns went to Ryan Monahan, who had 44 yards receiving, and the fifth went to Marcos Ramirez.
Monahan also had an interception returned for a score along with Harrison Zhang.
The Sobrato defense had eight takeaways, including five interceptions.
The Bulldogs led 35-8 after the first quarter despite a lost fumble that led to Lick scoring its first TD of the night.
Bell got things rolling with a 57-yard touchdown to Ramirez followed by Zhang recording a pick-6 for an early 15-0 lead.
Jones made it 21-8 when he broke a 60-yard touchdown run. Jones had his second TD with 40 seconds left in the quarter.
Lick cut the deficit down to 35-16, but Sobrato had an answer with Monahan taking an interception back for a touchdown for a 42-16 lead.
The two sides traded touchdowns through the second quarter before Sobrato took a 49-28 lead at the half.
In the second half, Sobrato quickly went up 62-28 midway though the third quarter.
By then, the Bulldogs brought in newly brought up quarterback JT Sheets to get his first varsity experience.
Sheets played the fourth quarter and a part of the third and helped to keep things moving forward.
Sam Anaya scored to make the game 69-28 late in the third and Jones capped off the scoring with a TD in the fourth.
Sobrato will now gear up for the 1-7 Mt. Pleasant Cardinals Friday night.
Kickoff in the game is slated for 7pm at Sobrato.
