City reduces rent for Royal Clothiers

The Redevelopment Agency, with the Morgan Hill City Council acting as its board, approved a 30 percent rent decrease for Royal Clothiers. Owner Carlos Perez has rented the space at 17390 Monterey Road for his mens’ formal wear and alterations store since November 2005. The city bought the property in February 2008.

Like other tenants of city-owned properties, Perez is on a month-to-month rent. The prior monthly rate was $3,720. It was dropped to $2,400, retroactive to Jan. 1.

The agreement stipulates Perez waives the right to claim a loss of business when he relocates. The city is considering pursuing a mixed-use development at the location he’s at now.
