Principal Patrick Buchser rings the bell in the quad for the

Just one week after the Morgan Hill Unified School District school board approved the new magnet school, a new principal is named.

Patrick Buchser, currently the principal at El Toro Elementary, will be the new principal at the Jackson Music and Math K-8 Academy, housed at the current Jackson Elementary school site.

“His demonstrated success in team building and student achievement will provide strong leadership for this new program,” said Superintendent Wes Smith in a release Tuesday afternoon.

Beginning in the 2012-13 school year, the music and math K-8 magnet school will focus on individual math instruction each day, with a problem-solving focus and more afterschool options such as the AIM math program the district is already using. With the musical aspect, there will be weekly school day instruction and after school opportunities. State standards however, are still the core of instruction.

Current Jackson Elementary School principal Elvia Teixeira, in her first school year with the district, will move to P.A. Walsh Elementary. Current Walsh principal Natalie Gioco will move to Live Oak High School as assistant principal. Dave Tolson, currently assistant principal at Live Oak, is retiring this year.
