Juniors led young team in kills, assists
MORGAN HILL — Switching off at setter and outside hitter, juniors Ethan Lines and Estevan Santiago composed the backbone of Sobrato’s attack.
They were ranked first and second in kills and assists this spring, and, for that, have been named second-team all league in Santa Teresa Division volleyball.
“Those two, pretty much, did it all,” first-year coach Todd Anderson said Wednesday. “They were elite.”
Santiago led Sobrato with 96 kills and 65 assists, and Lines had 55 and 54. Santiago collected a club-best 44 blocks, and Lines scored 21 aces, also a team high.
Together, they helped the seniorless Bulldogs battle through a rebuilding season. The team finished 2-15 overall and 2-8 in league, including a thrilling five-game victory over Lincoln to end the season.
“They definitely took charge and were there to help the other guys understand when and where they were supposed to be in position,” Anderson said. “They helped keep things together as a team.
“They have a whole ‘nother year ahead of them and should be just as instrumental next season.”
