Teresa Division title
MORGAN HILL — Completing what seemed like a foregone conclusion less than halfway through league play, Sobrato beat Gunderson 65-48 Wednesday to emphatically lay claim to an outright Santa Teresa Division title.

It is the Bulldogs’ second conference crown in boys basketball and first since 2007.

Their 17-point drubbing provided the perfect finish to a championship run that was met with little resistence. Sobrato’s one league loss came by 57-55 score last Wednesday at Evergreen Valley. The Bulldogs (17-6 overall, 12-1 league) won their other conference games by an average of 20.6 points.

Sobrato’s seniors shined in their final home game, as Ryan Williams totaled a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds, Bryan Bradley had 13 points and six assists, and Kenny Mounteer collected 11 points. Senior point guard Chris Bradley dished six assists, and Howard Kwong pulled down half a dozen rebounds for the Bulldogs, who secured a second straight invite to the Central Coast Section Division II tournament. They will find out their seeding at this weekend’s CCS playoff meeting in San Jose.

The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season at 7 p.m. tonight at Hill and are going for their 14th win in 16 games.

Sobrato never lost control Wednesday after building a 19-7 edge in the first quarter. The Bulldogs took a 35-23 lead into halftime.

The Grizzlies (4-20, 1-12) received 16 points from Michael Ybarra and 12 from Lodiniel Vertilus.
