Birding for Kids

Kids are naturally curious and birds hold a special fascination: they fly. Santa Clara County Parks provide opportunities with Birding for Kids at local lakes. Take a short bird-spotting walk along Coyote Creek Parkway and learn tricks on how to identify the most common birds. Best for ages 12 and under. Bring binoculars and sun protection and meet on Saturday, July 30 at 8:30 a.m. at the visitors center of Anderson Lake County Park at 19245 Malaguerra Ave., in Morgan Hill. Friday Night Music Series

The Friday Night Music Series, an annual summer-long weekly event sponsored by the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, begins at 6 p.m. every Friday through Aug. 26 at the Downtown Amphitheater, 17000 Monterey Rd. Each session starts with young emerging artists taking the stage from 6 to 6:50 p.m., followed by a weekly headliner. On Friday, July 29, throw your hands in the air with the upbeat sounds of Extra Large. Food and beverages, including beer and wine, are sold on site. No outside alcohol is allowed. County Fair

The Santa Clara County Fair makes its return to San Jose in a can’t-miss four-day event. Jump into the celebration by going on rides, playing with exotic animals, checking out the wild performances and indulging yourself with the vast selection of food. The fun begins Thursday, Aug 4, from 1 to 10 p.m., and continues Friday, Aug. 5, from Noon to 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6-7, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Rd., in San Jose. Music at Miramar

Reward yourself for working hard all week with an afternoon of Music at Miramar. Gather a team and play a round of bocce ball, a game that brings families and friends together. Movie in the Park

Take the family out under the stars and have an “easy button” weekend evening with Hollister Recreation Movies in the Park. Come early and have a picnic and let the kids play at the playground before settling down for Zootopia on Friday, August 5 at 8 p.m. at Valley View Park, known as Whale Park on Valley View Rd., in Hollister. Mudstone Grand Opening

The new, non-motorized, multi-use trails at Hollister Hills are ready to celebrate with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. Mudstone Ranch offers a new network of trails for the non-motorized recreation community including hikers, bikers and equestrians.
