Red Phone

“Red Phone, trying to work with city to get basketball hoops out of the street that are being left there 24 hours a day and I haven’t had much luck. Can you help me?”

Red  Phone: Dear Outta Luck, yes. And here’s the response from Code Enforcement officer John Amos:

“Reporting Party was advised at that time that these are very low priority cases and that I would try to get out there soon.”

– 1/12/12 – Took photos of the violation.

– 1/18/12 – Violation notice mailed out. Compliance date was 1/27/12

– 2/02/12 – Hoop #1 was removed from the street, Hoop #2 remained.

– 2/10/12 – Sent a second notice to owner of Hoop #2 with a compliance date of 2/17/12.

– 2/10/12 – RP called and left a voicemail asking that the City remove Hoop #2.

– 2/13/12 – I called the RP and advised that the owner of hoop #2 has until 2/17/12 to comply.

– 2/16/12 – Left my business card at the front door of the owner of Hoop #2 – no one was home.

– 2/17/12 – 11:45 a.m., the hoop was gone. Case closed.

There you go, good caller.

Contractor to remove weeds

“Red Phone, the city spent all that money on building a Third Street Promenade and now it looks like this … weeds as big as some of the bushes. Who is supposed to maintain this public jewel?”

Red  Phone: Dear Disgusted, Red Phone contacted Karl Bjarke, city engineer, who said the maintenance of the landscaping along the Third Street Promenade is still the responsibility of the contractor who installed it under an extended maintenance contract.

“They have been notified to attend to the maintenance needs,” Bjarke said.

Hope that answers your question, good caller.
