Local team rides pitching to first-place finish in final
tournament of season
MODESTO — If the season is coming to an end, why not finish on top?
The Silicon Valley Storm 10U travel baseball team did just that at the Monster Bash Tournament held July 24-25 at Rainbow Field in Modesto.
Anchored by a complete-game performance on the mound from Lucas Schmidt, the Storm eked out a 4-3 win in the finals over the WC Nationals, a team built with members from five different travel ball teams. DJ Washington hurled a no-hitter in a semifinal against the Concord Patriots Combined to propel the Storm into the finals.
Silicon Valley outscored its opponents 27-4 during pool play, earning the No. 1 seed heading into bracket play.
Led by Jordan Cardenas, Nolan Cisewski, Dylan Holler, Billy Mazotti, Nathan Medrano, Derek Petersen, PJ Rochon and Mikey Yamaguma, the Storm played solid defense and came through at the plate all tournament.
