BASEBALL: Schedule updates for City Championships, All-Stars

Morgan Hill All-Stars headed to Sectionals
LOS GATOS — Morgan Hill manager Manny Brum is confident the upcoming sectional at Fisher Field in Los Gatos will not be the last tournament his Pony All-Stars compete in this summer.

The local team needs to reach the finals of the nine-team double-elimination event to qualify for Regionals. If they play their potential, the Morgan Hill All-Stars should advance, according to their skipper.

“There’s a couple tough teams in the tournament, but we can compete against everyone,” said Brum, whose team opens at 10 a.m. Sunday against the winner of a San Jose Pacific-San Jose PAL matchup Saturday. “Our defense and pitching are going to carry us. We should be tough to score on.”

Morgan Hill features a four-person staff headed by Kyle Quadros and Adam Belluomini. Dalton Craig has shown promise behind the plate, and Frank Tomasello leads a talented group of outfielders.

The chief concern is hitting, though Morgan Hill is aggressive on the basepaths.

“Expectations are very high,” coach Mike Tomasello said. “It’s a matter of executing.”
