The A All-Stars could become the third Morgan Hill team to play
for a section title this summer
MORGAN HILL — Adding to what has been a tremendous postseason for all levels of Morgan Hill Pony Baseball, the city’s Mustang 9 A All-Stars can clinch a berth in Regionals with a victory today against Ceres in the Morgan Hill Section Tournament at Britton Middle School.
The two teams will square off in the winners’-bracket final starting at 5:30 p.m. The championship round is scheduled to begin at the same time Thursday with both finalists earning invites to the Santa Clara and Alameda County Regional.
Managed by Randy Romriell, the A All-Stars could become the third Morgan Hill team to play for a section title this summer, joining the city’s top teams in Pony 13 and Pinto. They won their first two games in the seven-team double-elimination tournament by convincing margin, beating San Jose PAL 16-11 Saturday and Blossom Valley 16-3 Sunday.
Morgan Hill A has thrived behind the combined pitching of Ben Buckman and Donald Ukanya, who is also batting a club-best .706 this postseason. Teammate Anthony DiVittorio is averaging .583. Should the A All-Stars fall to undefeated Ceres, they will face the winner of today’s Morgan Hill B-Blossom Valley elimination game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The local B All-Stars are 1-1 so far in the tournament, having beaten San Jose PAL 12-10 Monday. That Morgan Hill team is managed by Mike Hernandez.
NOTE: Two Morgan Hill teams will host to a Mustang Sectional next week.
