MORGAN HILL — An invite to Regionals will have to wait another day for Morgan Hill A.

The city’s top All-Star team in the Mustang 9 Morgan Hill Sectional fell 14-4 to Ceres on Tuesday in a battle of unbeatens at Britton Middle School.

Morgan Hill A, which won its two previous games in the seven-team double-elimination tournament by a combined score of 32-14, will have to beat Blossom Valley today to qualify for Regionals. The winner will face Ceres in the championship round Thursday.

“They’re a really good team, very strong,” Morgan Hill manager Randy Romriell said of the powerful club from near Modesto. “From here, we just have to refocus on Blossom Valley. We beat them [16-3] Sunday, but they’re a very strong team as well.”

Should his team advance, Romriell said he will switch up his pitching to try and keep the Ceres All-Stars off balance. Morgan Hill A mustered four hits against them Tuesday — singles by Anthony DiVittorio, Damon Rodriguez, Daniel Bo and Donald Ukanwa, who had an RBI.

Today’s game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Blossom Valley advanced to the losers’-bracket final by beating Morgan Hill B 14-3 Tuesday in elimination play. Morgan Hill B was coming off a thrilling 12-10 win over San Jose PAL on Monday.

“If the kids made a few more plays like we did against PAL and hit the same way, we could have played with any team in this tournament,” Morgan Hill B manager Mike Hernandez said. “The kids came out and played hard, which is all we can ask from them.”

Marcus Hernandez and Jacob Caneta provided the B All-Stars’ two hits in the game with Hernandez adding an RBI. Samantha Brenny, Manny Aguayo and Hernandez scored.
