Morgan Hill’s bid to earn back-to-back trips to the Pinto World Series ended Tuesday, as the Morgan Hill A All-Stars lost 3-2 to Bel Passi in a hard-fought elimination game at the Morgan Hill Sectional.

The locals loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning at Britton Middle School but could not muster a big hit.

“Both games, our guys left it all on the field,” Morgan Hill manager Mitch Martinez said, alluding to Tuesday’s loss and Sunday’s 7-6 defeat to Paso Robles, which plays in the final round beginning Thursday. “We just fell short. I was proud of the way we played, not just in the games but in the three weeks of practice. They gave it 110 percent.”

Trailing 3-0 after the first inning, Morgan Hill chipped away in the third and fourth innings with RBIs by Gabriel LaGatta and Josh Elam, respectively, who scored Shane Callison and Taylor Wake.

Relievers Kai Peery and Nathan Medeiros combined for 12 strikeouts, with Peery striking out the side in the final three innings.

Bel Passi plays Seaside A at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the losers’ bracket final. The winner has to beat Paso Robles twice to win the section title.
