I’m sure you can come up with a few more reasons, but it all comes down to the cause and effect or the ball flight laws if you will.
The simple truth to the matter is that wherever the clubface is pointing at impact that is the direction the ball will go.
When I found this out, I became a better ball striker and became less frustrated about poorly hit shots. I find that I can make ajustments quicker, and I can shape my shots at the target much better as well.
Alignment is the key. If you start with the fundamental of aligning your shoulders, hips, and knees parallel to the target line then chances are you will have a straighter ball flight when swinging the club on the correct swing plain.
Now this is where it gets fun. If you want to fade the ball (make it go from left to right for right handed golfers), just open your stance, but keep the clubface on the target line.
This will allow you to put left rotation on the ball so that the momentum of the swing pulls the ball left, and the left side spin curves the ball right at the target where the clubface was pointing at impact.
If you want to draw the ball, just close your stance to the target and you will hit a right to left spin on the ball making it go from right to left.
Knowing the causes and effects will help you become a better golfer.
