Red Phone, I was hoping you can help with a problem on Main

“Red Phone, I was hoping you can help with a problem on Main Avenue between Hale and Peak avenues. P.A. Walsh school at 2:30 p.m. causes traffic to back up and one day I had to wait three to five minutes for cars to move. In the past I’ve called the school district and they said it’s the city’s problem. I called the police department and they said they’d monitor it, but I haven’t seen any improvement. I’m hoping you can contact the school district and maybe have them direct traffic more efficiently.

Red Phone: Dear Delayed, Red Phone contacted Cpl. Rod Krewson, who said he was out there two weeks ago and the department is “looking at solutions” to the problem.

He said one idea may be to paint the curb red in front of the church at Main and Crest avenues limiting parking there for a short period of time in the afternoon to prevent vehicles from forming a line. But, he said that may not occur until next school year, so stay patient. That being said, Red Phone suggests one of two things. Either don’t go that way between, say 2:15 and 2:45 p.m. or take a different route. That should save you those three to five minutes.

Yes, it’s true, Burger King is closed

“Red Phone, today (Thursday, April 22) I noticed the signs of the Burger King at Monterey Road and Edmundson Avenue were gone and the place is closed. Tell me the King did not close.”

Red Phone: Dear Burger Fan, sorry to say it, but it’s true. That Burger King served their last hamburger Wednesday night.

According to Bruno Martino, the property owner, the restaurant that opened in 1980 closed due to growing competition and road improvements that made access to the property increasingly difficult over the years.

Martino said he is in negotiations with a potential new tenant to move onto the property, though he did not specify the business.

Good caller, go to www.morganhilltimes.com for the complete story. It was posted Thursday night.
