restaurants.
A diverse crowd converged on the Morgan Hill Buddhist Community Center last week to enjoy the delectable sushi and Japanese cuisine provided by six Morgan Hill and South San Jose sushi restaurants.
To satisfy their thirst, appropriately a diverse selection of sake was introduced from another six major Japanese sake distributors. Included in the sake selection were sparkling sake, plum wine, and very fine premium sake imported from Tokyo, Japan.
To make matters even more colorful, a cultural selection was presented for silent auction ranging from Bunka art (silken threads composing a painting like nature scene) to lacquered Obento boxes (box lunch containers). Thought provoking displays of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team composed entirely of Japanese American solders of World War II along with displays depicting the local history of Japanese American families added to the enrichment and enjoyment of this event. Many of these items on display will find their way into the Morgan Hill Historical Museum, slated to open in late November.
This first of its kind event, the Autumn Sake & Sushi Tasting, was well received by the attendees. The event raised $5,000 to purchase trade show quality display panels to bring the local history of the Japanese Community to schools and other interested groups. Proceeds will further the preservation of the historically meaningful history of the local Japanese families who presence played an important role in the development of Morgan Hill and South County.
