The 10-and-under club is 30-8 since August and has won four tournament titles.

The Morgan Hill Assault captured another 10-and-under championship at the TPR Easter Saturday One Day Event in Smyrna Park.

The Assault won all three of its games at George Costa Ball Field Complex for its fourth title in seven tournaments – and seven finals appearances – this season. The team opened with a 4-3 win over the Head First Gamers of Danville, then beat Hard 90 Power Premier 10-2, and the NorCal Titans Blue of Brentwood 8-4 in the final.

Since August, the locals are 30-8.

“We’re getting into the thick of the season for travel ball,” Assault manager Vince LaGatta said. “The weather’s getting better. Kids play every weekend. We’re seeing better teams out there. It’s a tribute to the Assault and a testament to this team wanting to get better.”

Jack Tomlinson went 3 for 6 in the tournament to lead the Morgan Hill club, while Michael Barone was the Assault’s top pitcher, and Vinnie LaGatta the top defensive player. Barone and LaGatta stood out in the championship game. Teammate Cory Taylor stole home to score the winning run against the Head First Gamers.

The Assault used 11 different pitchers during its first two games.

“Each kid got in one inning,” Vince LaGatta said. “That kind of shows the depth of the Assault; we move kids around, and we’re very versatile. A lot of teams don’t have that luxury.”

The Assault will play one more tournament together on May 5 before dispersing for the Pony All-Star season.
