It was a hectic weekend for Morgan Hill Police officers as they worked their usual number of calls for service but also dealt with two hit-and-run accidents.

The first accident occurred Saturday night at approximately 8:40pm when police received a call of an accident on Hillwood Lane, near Hale Avenue and Llagas Road in north Morgan Hill. Officers arrived at the scene to find a Toyota pickup had crashed into a light pole, but there was no one in the vehicle.

It appeared the pickup had drifted off the roadway, through a fence and struck the light pole.

A search of the Toyota turned up information leading to the Christina Apartments on West Main Avenue. The owner of the Toyota told police his son, Erick Siney, 21, of Morgan Hill, had borrowed the truck and gone out with a friend.

Officers then went to another West Main Avenue address and talked to Samuel Ortiz, 45, of Morgan Hill to ask if he knew where Siney was.

Though Ortiz denied knowledge of his whereabouts, Siney was found hiding in a back bedroom at the Ortiz residence.

Siney was booked into county jail on charges of driving under the influence and hit-and-run. He was arrested without incident. Ortiz was charged with concealing a felon.

Just six hours after the first accident, MHPD officers were dealing with another hit-and-run. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30am Sunday, when an abandoned vehicle was reported on Dougherty Avenue off of Tilton Avenue in north Morgan Hill.

The vehicle was on the raised center median and had damaged the landscaping. Inside the vehicle, officers found a fishing license with the name and address of Morgan Cisneros, 25, of Morgan Hill. When they arrived at Cisneros’ residence, he was there, and according to MHPD Lt. Joe Sampson, appeared to be extremely intoxicated.

“He admitted, at that time, to driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of the accident,” Sampson said Monday. “He also had a cut to the head and redness to his chest, which is consistent with the deployment of the airbag.”

Cisneros was transported to the police station, where, according to Sampson, he became “combative and belligerent.”

While he was being booked, he butted an officer in the temple with his head. The officer’s injuries were minor. Cisneros was transported to county jail. On the way, he was hitting his head against the metal cage in the police car, then kicking the rear window of the car, which shattered, damaging the frame.

“He was racking up charges as he went along,” Sampson said.

Cisneros was arrested on charges of DUI, hit and run, vandalism and assaulting a peace officer.
