Do you agree with President Barack Obama’s decision to close
Guantanamo Bay?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
“Do you agree with President Barack Obama’s decision to close Guantanamo Bay?” Yes: 8 No: 1
? Karen Anderson: “I am not sure how much it matters WHERE the prisoners are held as long as they are separate from the general prison population so they cannot recruit.”
? Bert Berson: “Yes. Although, I would rather use it as a resort for the last administration.”
? Dennis Kennedy: “Yes! We need to live by the principles upon which our country was founded!”
? Julian Mancias: “Yes. We need to cut back on military spending anyway.”
? Linda McNulty: “Yes, bad memories.”
? Henry Miller: “Yes!! The prison at Guantanamo Bay is blight on the United States’ conscience. We need to practice what we preach regarding individual rights. Convicted terrorists should be treated as terrorists, but always humanely. Maybe then, if and when released, they will appreciate the advantages of our system of justice.”
? Lisa Pampuch: “Yes. The suspects being held there need to be given fair trials and then treated appropriately based upon the verdicts. We must uphold our principles, especially when it’s difficult, or else they’re meaningless.”
? John Quick: “Yes. It has become a symbol of the many and varied mistakes of the Bush Administration in how not to conduct the battle against terror. It symbolizes a victory by Al Qaeda. They forced that administration to act in an unAmerican way, making Guantanamo and Iraq terrorist creating entities. We gave up on the ‘American Way’ of justice and fairness. It is time to restore it.
? Emily Shem-Tov: “Yes, it is a critical first step and sends an important message. The abuses reported there were violations of American and international law and morally wrong, weakening our security and undermining our ideals.”
