Is illegal immigration a race issue?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
“Is illegal immigration a race issue?” Yes: 5 No: 6
? Karen Anderson: “Not entirely. I think there is a large fairness issue among people wishing to be legal residents who are willing to follow the law. I think citizens resent paying taxes for services to illegals, especially in hard times.”
? Bert Berson: “Yes. Unacknowledged racism is alive and well.”
? Chris Bryant: “No, Many people interpret it that way because our primary problem is with our southern border. However, many others are coming from other counties and entering via Mexico as well.”
? Bob Chidester: “No. Anyone here illegally regardless of race or national origin should be denied all government benefits, employment, driver’s licenses, etc. If we were more vigilant, most illegals would self deport.”
? David Cohen: “Yes, unfortunately it has become one. We tend to focus on the border with Mexico because of our proximity and the large number of people who cross it. However, we should remember that those responsible for the attacks on Sept. 11 entered through Canada.”
? Dennis Kennedy: “It is not an issue for the majority of Americans, but it is an issue of race for some, although very few, if any, would admit it.”
? Julian Mancias: “Yes. Racism is like a seed in an Arizonan desert that lays dormant for years while it waits for the next storm, in this case an economic crisis, to hit in order to germinate and thus reveal its true colors.”
? Linda McNulty: “No, it’s a financial issue.”
? Lisa Pampuch: “For many people, unfortunately, it is.”
? Jeff Smith: “No, it has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with breaking the law. Read the law – you will find no mention of race, color, or national origin.”
? Steve Staloch: “No, it’s a sovereignty and national security issue that Congress continues to evade for purely political reasons.”
