Do you think the stimulus package as proposed will work

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:

“Do you think the stimulus package as proposed will work” Unsure: 2 Yes: 5 No: 2

? Karen Anderson: “Not sure. I don’t like the huge debt that our children will inherit. An economist with the Apartment Association points out that Hoover did a stimulus package and it was, in fact, World War II that brought us out of the Great Depression.”

? Chris Bryant: “I expect it to work about as well as the last one did. It will take a broad shift on the part of businesses to spur a real sustainable economic recovery.”

? David Cohen: “Yes but the economy will wake up slowly. But the stimulus package will work.”

? Dennis Kennedy: “It’s a good start.”

? Julian Mancias: “No. It was never designed to solve the economic crises. The Treasury Department needs to resolve the handling of the toxic loans and to ease the lending process.”

? Linda McNulty: “I believe the stimulus package is more of a concept than a plan. I have concerns that Wall Street is not not viewing this favorably and major concerns with our increasing deficit. Alternatively, I do hope it will make a positive impact on Americans who are struggling.”

? Hank Miller: “Not at all. In fact, I found it somewhat refreshing that, after 16 years of denial, we finally have a president who can say, ‘I screwed up.’

? Lisa Pampuch: “I don’t think anyone knows for certain; I’m certainly hopeful that it will. The time frame is another open question. While I might quibble with this detail or that detail, overall, the stimulus package is a step in the right direction. As President Obama has said, doing nothing and repeating the failed policies of the last eight years are not reasonable options.”

? John Quick: “It is a start. Very few things of this scope work as predicted. There are too many variable, which change with time as effects kick in. The important thing is to start and be prepared to make adjustments on the fly; fine tuning for the maximum desired effect. That is how real life works.”

? Emily Shem-Tov: “Yes – I don’t think it will turn things around overnight, but the proposed bill pushes out some much needed spending which will hopefully be a boost in the right direction and help start to turn things around.”
