Around the Water Cooler

Question of the week: “Should Clear Channel drop Rush Limbaugh over his three-day verbal assault on Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke?”

  • Karen Anderson: “Yes, though I think that the advertisers will do the deed if they stick to their guns. He is just a dirty old man with a political agenda. Videos indeed.”
  • Dave Appling: “Yes. Rush went so far over the line that he can’t see it in his rear view mirror. And his ‘apology’ wasn’t one. The GOP leadership should dump this buffoon too, but of course they’re too much in his thrall to defy him.”
  • Bert Berson: “Yes. I would prefer that the universe drop Rush Limbaugh into a black hole and we never hear from him again. The only problem is that according to general relativity his mass may be too large. Still, I am sure a solution can be found.”
  • Chris Bryant: “No, but perhaps they need to clarify his show as more in line as a ‘Shock Jock’ involved in political punditry. Such as a rabid cross of Colbert and Stern.”
  • David Cohen: “Yes, but I don’t think it will happen. Rush generates huge ratings for the stations that carry his show and huge profits for the company that owns and distributes the show. When the ratings and the profits go, Rush will go. Not before then.”
  • Dennis Kennedy: “Yes. His behavior is inexcusable!”
  • Julian Mancias: “Yes. There is no excuse for Limbaugh’s uncalled for rampage.”
  • Henry Miller: “That’s an easy one. YES, YES and more YES. There is no room for that sort of demeaning, insulting blather on the air. And the ‘liberal’ media is accused of being biased and unfair and yet thinks he just used a poor choice of words. Go figure.”n Jeff Nunes: “No. He made a horrible choice in how he choose to illustrate the absurdity of what Ms. Fluke was advocating, but removing him from the airwaves is not warranted. And the hypocrisy of those calling for his removal, many of whom are viewers and supporters of liberal commentators who have hurled far worse misogynist statements at the likes of Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, and other conservative women commentators is staggering.”
  • Lisa Pampuch: “Yes. Rush Limbaugh’s behavior toward Ms. Fluke was not just another example of his appalling bad taste, it also appears to be a textbook case of slander, which should be cause for firing for anyone paid to speak publicly.”
  • Jeff Smith: “No. While I don’t condone the words he used, he apologized and it should be over. The liberal media is making a huge issue over this to distract us from the fact that Obama wants to tell the Catholic church what to do. Besides, there are numerous instances where liberal media types have used equally offensive or worse language to attack conservative women, and the media completely ignores these. There is a tremendous double standard out there, and those who can’t see it are, well, they’re liberals.”
  • Steve Staloch: “Yes, free speech should not ensure the commercialization of buffoonery.”
