Around the Water Cooler: Vaccines and autism

In the next 25 years, do you believe the United States can
produce more energy than it imports?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:

“In the next 25 years, do you believe the United States can produce more energy than it imports?

” Yes: 8 No: 3

? Karen Anderson: “No. Not enough pressure on us yet to finance real oil-free solutions.”

? Dave Appling: “Can we? Yes. Will we? Not bloody likely, unless we change our ways. On our current glide path, China and the EU are gonna eat our lunch.”

? Bert Berson: “No. But we should be able to narrow the import gap.”

? Chris Bryant: “Yes, but only through very aggressive conservation and alternative energy initiatives.”

? David Cohen: “No. As long as our population continues to grow, we’ll need energy and I don’t think we can produce enough without importing some form of energy from other countries.”

? Julian Mancias: “Yes. The U.S. will become the world’s leader in the development of new sources of clean and abundant energy.”

? Linda McNulty: “Yes, or maybe just get better at it. We should consider alternatives like using cellulosic materials instead of corn and create more efficient methods of producing ethanol.”

? Henry Miller: “If the operative word is ‘can,’ then certainly we can. We have proven we can do anything we set our minds to. Will we or should we raises other questions. Energy independent countries don’t seem to be doing any better than the U.S.”

? Lisa Pampuch: “Yes, if we’re willing to accept that no ‘perfect’ energy source exists and that no single source will fill our energy needs. All energy sources require trade offs.”

? Emily Shem-Tov: “Yes, but it will take a concerted and sustained effort, a better mix of renewable sources and an emphasis on efficiency and sustainability.”

? Jeff Smith: “Absolutely. We could do it today if we had a little more common sense, and quit letting the environmental extremists run the world. We have an abundance of natural gas. We should start running our cars on this. We should build many more more nuclear power plants. We should lift all bans on drilling and let people drill wherever there is oil. It is pure insanity to pay out billions to terrorist nations to buy what we already have at home.”
