This week’s Area Stars: Dustin Muhn of Live Oak, Peter Mickartz
of Gilroy and Jeff Hawks of Hollister-San Benito
Area Football Stars
Dustin Muhn
Live Oak High junior
running back
Muhn rushed for a season-high 91 yards on 12 carries, mostly on lightning-fast sweeps during which he simply outran the defense to the outside. He missed scoring his first touchdown of the season when his 32-yard TD run was called back due to a penalty.
Peter Mickartz
Gilroy High senior quarterback
On a night when several Mustangs stood out, the team’s senior quarterback led the way. In his best game to date, Mickartz completed 8-of-12 passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns. His two TD passes in the first quarter sparked Gilroy on its way to a 35-13 romp at Watsonville.
Jeff Hawks
San Benito High senior defensive back
Senior Jeff Hawks had a strong game for the Haybalers defensively, preventing several touchdowns and providing strong coverage. “He did everything we asked of him,” said defensive coordinator Tod Thatcher.
