David Sweeney, a 2019 Sobrato High graduate, was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week for March 22-28. The San Jose State sophomore goalkeeper was key in the team’s 4-0 win over Cal Baptist on March 27, finishing with three saves.

Entering the week, the 6-foot, 183-pounder had a terrific 1.10 goals against average and has played every single minute this season. Sweeney has recorded five shutouts in his college career, and also earned WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors in his freshman season.

Sweeney never suited up for Sobrato but did play for the De Anza Force Academy and five years in the U.S. Development Academy. SJSU (2-1-2) next plays at Utah Valley tonight.
