Morgan Hill – A 40-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night for assault with a deadly weapon after he was allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident, said Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing.
The Morgan Hill man was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on the assault charge as well as charges of alleged domestic violence and stalking.
According to Swing, the incident occurred at the intersection of Monterey Road and Vineyard Boulevard at approximately 8pm when the victim, a 43-year-old Morgan Hill woman was stopped in her vehicle at a traffic light. She told police her ex-boyfriend, driving a mid-sized truck, had smashed into the back of her vehicle, pushing her out into northbound traffic.
“She had a passenger with her, and fortunately, neither one of them were injured,” Swing said.
When officers arrived, the two vehicles were in the Safeway parking lot, with the truck blocking the way of the victim’s vehicle.
The ex-boyfriend was arrested, as well as the passenger in the victim’s car, a 40-year-old San Jose man who is the current boyfriend of the victim, Swing said. He was arrested for a $10,000 warrant from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. He, like the ex-boyfriend, was booked into the county jail.
The incident was the culmination of escalating threats from the ex-boyfriend, the victim told police. She said the couple were dating for a while and had recently split, and her ex-boyfriend had been threatening her.
“She said he had threatened to kill her before, but unfortunately she had never contacted the police about the threats,” said Swing. “She didn’t think it would escalate to this level. Domestic violence in general is most commonly an escalating behavior. In this case, he started with text messaging, then phone messaging, then showing up and stalking her. A week prior he had threatened to injure her by crashing into her car.”
